Title: World of Warcraft hackers using Sony BMG rootkit

This one is funny. If you haven't heard the news about SOny installing Rootkits on your PC if listening to music, then you have to read this :)

First here is the Rootkit story...

Now for the WoW story....

Want to cheat in your online game and not get caught? Just buy a Sony BMG copy protected CD.

World of Warcraft hackers have confirmed that the hiding capabilities of Sony BMG's content protection software can make tools made for cheating in the online world impossible to detect. The software--deemed a "rootkit" by many security experts--is shipped with tens of thousands of the record company's music titles.

Blizzard Entertainment, the maker of World of Warcraft, has created a controversial program that detects cheaters by scanning the processes that are running at the time the game is played. Called the Warden, the anti-cheating program cannot detect any files that are hidden with Sony BMG's content protection, which only requires that the hacker add the prefix "$sys$" to file names.

Despite making a patch available on Wednesday to consumers to amend its copy protection software's behavior, Sony BMG and First 4 Internet, the maker of the content protection technology, have both disputed claims that their system could harm the security of a Windows system. Yet, other software makers that rely on the integrity of the operating system are finding that hidden code makes security impossible.

Very interesting that the owners of EQ2 are slipping this into the market to help the WOW hackers. Coincidence or conspiracy you be the judge!!!!

Actually it isn't the owners of EQ2 community. Any known hacker/cracker knows about this Rootkit and those who try anything to cheat or crack in anyway knew about it. In fact, I bet hardly anyone in EQ2 knows about this.

The Rootkit from Sony Music was posted all over the Net and News. This isn't from Sony Games.

Thing is, Sony has been doing this for some time now, prob before even WoW came out. It is just recently someone found out about it and Sony put up a program for you to remove it from your computer.

Don't expect JUST the WoW community to use this. Expect people who make viruses, spyware, ad-ware to use it to hide their programs.

The same thing we try to do every night, Pinky...Try to take over the world!

By unleashing this Rootkit, no gamer or user will be protected. Our evil kind will use their cheat programs hidden from Sony and Blizzard to cause havoc in the game. No one will want to play! Every game will have cheaters and make the games no longer fun!

Then we have our Virus writers, they will unleash Super Viruses to derail the computers of the world! Causing millions of $$$ in corporate losses and destroying home computers to beyond booting!!

Last we have our Spyware crew. With them they will unleash their code to create thousands of zombie machines, we hit AOL since they are the biggest ISP, plus they suck. With these computers generating popup's and infected other computers as zombies, we will become RICH and do you know what that means Pinky?

WE WILL RULE THE WORLD!!!!
