Some of you know what I do for a living; I write disaster recovery plans. I had a discussion with my boss this morning that "worst case scenario" means exactly what's going on in New Orleans right now, and we need to start planning for that level of destruction and disorder when we use those words. Yes, what's going on there is horrible almost beyond the realm of comprehension, and I know all of us hope that they get the situation there under control before more lives are lost.
[soapbox] You also know how I am about helping people, so try hitting www.networkforgood.org. If you click the "Hurricane Katrina" graphic on their homepage, it'll take you to a list of links for organizations that need either people-type help or cash donations. Also check your local network TV or radio station websites -- they may be coordinating an effort to send help from your city and need people to help pack trucks or label supplies. [/soapbox]
Do what you can to help, gang - if we all do a little, it adds up to a lot. :)
I heard that the American Red Cross charges (CHARGES... like REAL money!!) its hard-working volunteers for things like coffee and blankets while they are out in the field working their asses off. Does anyone know if this is really true?
I have never been charged for anything by Red Cross. I have volunteered several times. Matter of fact, on my last run to Mississippi, they insisted on filling up the truck I drove.
